EA Sports has released a ‘ First Look Video’ for their upcoming mixed martial arts video game, EA Sports MMA. Fedor Emelianenko faces off against Brett Rogers in this simulation of a fight that just took place in the real world on Saturday, November 7, 2009.
The video displays some impressive graphics as Fedor and Rogers trade blows in a recent Strikeforce fight. While it’s too early to overanalyze the video and make judgments on the gameplay, the game is scheduled to be released sometime in 2010 and should be a legitimate contender for MMA’s current console king, UFC Undisputed 2009. THQ put out a stellar MMA fighting experience with their PS3 and 360 versions of UFC Undisputed 2009 this past summer.
The UFC is the fastest growing stage for MMA in the United States and THQ catered to that fact, including over 80 fighters from the league in their game. Since the game is based around the UFC, many fans were sad to see that Fedor (MMA’s modern equivalent to Iron Mike Tyson) was not included in the game. EA Sports capitalized shortly after, announcing Fedor as the face of their upcoming game.
Joe Rogan, a color commentator for the UFC, recently posted on Twitter about THQ’s upcoming sequel, UFC Undisputed 2010:
‘I just left THQ working on the newest UFC game. This thing is gonna be beyond sick!’
No matter who comes out the victor in this virtual MMA battle, fans of the sport should at least appreciate that the competition even exists (unlike with a certain football franchise).
